Over the years I have learned some great methods to relieve my anxiety. I exercise daily, I meditate, I pray, I do lots of things to control my stress but I still run into a few anxious moments every day. But I don’t let them get to me.

Everyone has to deal with anxiety, but there are some who, like I used to, seem to have more of it to deal with every day. What I’ve found is that most of the anxiety in the world is a product of our own making.

Your level of anxiety depends on your view of the world, your daily activities, and also your interaction with the people around you. I am sure you know that you can’t control what happens around you, but you can decide how you respond to it and therefore, giving you some control over how to deal with anxiety. Some methods of reducing anxiety are naturally better than others, but it is greatly influenced by how you look at the world, and how seriously you take yourself.

I want to make a confession. I used to take myself way too seriously. This was at a time when I was very unsure of myself. For a long time I had problems controlling my anxiety because I simply made too much of everything. I would think things like, “Did I say the right thing? Am I doing the right things?”

I believe that this is very common, especially when you are younger. Perhaps it takes life experience to show you that you should never take yourself too seriously, and that life is infinitely easier when you learn to get go. This in turn can help you understand that reducing anxiety is easier than you might have once thought it was. Perhaps you’ll understand that you were the source of your own worry the whole time. This can truly be an eye opening experience.

Learning to see the humor in anything that happens will help you have an easier time controlling your anxiety. It’s when you take things too seriously that they can become complicated. There are many serious things that happen in life, and many times they are life changing. But everything you do certainly doesn’t fall into this category.

Reducing your anxiety can be hard when serious things happen, but a helpful strategy is to stop and think things through before you allow your mind to run away with your thoughts. Yes, you will experience pain and sadness in life, and you may have some things to really worry about, but when you stop and think things through, you will find that the answer is in a place where you thought you’d never find it, right in front of you.

If you just can’t seem to get a grip on controlling your anxiety, find someone to talk to. You might be able to work things out by bouncing things off of a trusted friend. Sometimes this does not work well. If you feel very anxious you may have to find someone who is trained in helping people with controlling anxiety like a mental health professional. These professionals can help you cope with what is going on in your life. They can also teach you techniques and strategies on how you can cope with them and relieve your anxiety in the future.

If you are feeling anxious make a plan to start reducing your anxiety today. Figure out how to deal with anxiety and, within a short time, you’ll be feeling better and loving life!
